* Writing at least 1 manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal (data may be available for dissertation purposes upon successful completion of GSR)

* Supervising undergraduate research assistants
The dates of employment will be May 18, 2022 through July 30, 2022. Each appointment is for 20 hours per week with a gross salary of $6500.00.
Interested students may apply by emailing Prof. Ramírez a statement of interest (and which project) and a current CV no later than 9am Monday, April 25.
Details about the two projects are below.
Project 1: Understanding Barriers to Vaccination in California's San Joaquín Valley
This project is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the California Department of Public Health and is in collaboration with the Merced and Madera Counties Departments of Public Health. The overall aim of this project is to understand the structural barriers to COVID-19 and seasonal influenza vaccination coverage for racial and ethnic groups experiencing disparities. Adult vaccination coverage in the U.S. remains low and significant racial and ethnic disparities exist. The groups experiencing disparities are also disproportionately affected by COVID-19, at risk for serious illness from COVID-19, and/or at high risk for complications from influenza infections. Given the co-circulation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza, there is a critical opportunity to ensure equitable uptake of COVID-19 and flu vaccines. The data for this project include:
* Qualitative interviews with key stakeholders in the region, including Department of Public Health staff and staff and volunteers at various community-based organizations.
* Reports, meeting notes, and event details
* County- and sub-county-level geocoded data including vaccination rates, ethnic and linguistic clusters, clinical and retail facilities, etc...
Project 2: Beyond individual behavior change communication: Culturally appropriate messaging for empowerment and critical health literacy
This project is supported by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Institute for Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and aims to advance understanding of message design features that influence youth and young adults from ethnic minority groups to engage in dietary behaviors that both benefit themselves and contribute to change of social norms. Data for this project include:
* Online survey with embedded experiment with national panel of Mexican-American women (see protocol described in Contemporary Clinical Trials: doi: 10.1016/j.cct.2022.106711<https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cct.2022.106711>
