Featuring Dr. Johnny Jimenez, DNP, FNP-C, PMHNP-C
Together We Mentor (TWM) brings aspiring and current healthcare professionals together to share real stories, practical advice, and mentorship rooted in lived experience.
In this virtual session, Dr. Johnny Jimenez shares his journey from college student to dual-certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He will discuss how he chose nursing, why he pursued advanced practice, what he wishes he had known in college, and how to stand out in nursing school while preparing competitive NP program applications.
Dr. Jimenez approaches patient care with a holistic and compassionate mindset, recognizing the deep connection between physical health and mental well-being. As a Doctor of Nursing Practice–prepared clinician, he is committed to treating the whole person—not just immediate symptoms. He prioritizes building trusting relationships, listening closely to patients’ concerns, and creating safe spaces where individuals feel heard, valued, and empowered in their care.
In urgent care, he integrates family medicine and psychiatry to deliver timely, patient-centered treatment while keeping mental health at the forefront. His work emphasizes collaborative care, chronic disease management, mental health integration, cultural sensitivity, patient education, and community-centered practice.
Designed for college students, pre-nursing students, nursing students, and future NPs, this session includes live Q&A and will provide clarity, direction, and practical steps toward your career goals in healthcare.

DNP DESCRIPTION
A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is an advanced degree option tailored for nurses aspiring to pursue a doctoral-level education. DNP programs aim to equip nurses with the skills necessary to apply research findings effectively in clinical settings, fostering evidence-based<https://www.nursingworld.org/content-hub/resources/workplace/evidence-based-practice-in-nursing/> solutions. DNP programs primarily focus on enhancing nursing practice, while PhD in Nursing programs emphasize research<https://www.nursingworld.org/content-hub/resources/nursing-resources/how-to-become-a-research-nurse/>, typically within academic settings. Both pathways offer unique opportunities; DNPs prioritize evidence-based practice, while PhDs concentrate on conducting and assessing nursing research. Choosing the most suitable degree depends on individual interests and career goals.
