Hi Steve,

You are correct in that Riverside expressed support. Our Business Financial Services (BFS) folks reached out to me about this, and I let them know that my office was supportive of this.

Best,
Jose

Subject: Re: [Ucwsfiscal] UCPath 'Flexible Option'

Hello All,

We had some resistance to modifying the "Flexible" SCT option and are hoping to get your buy-in for this modified proposal targeting the "Leave As-Is" option to allow for modifying the existing WS split amount.

This change will allow us to effectively "un-split" a portion of a paycheck if the WS award is subsequently reduced in the SIS due to a new award getting added or what not. Without this we will need to do an SCT to "remove ws", wait for it to process, reduce the award then do another SCT to "apply".

I believe UCR has already expressed support for this change (in addition to UCB) via another channel. And it looks like UCSB and UCD are in support based on my initial email in November. Any other takers?

This proposed change is documented here<https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1cshFu-SkB8hvujiV1FqrRPUIlhqVLNJubGIF6ktHgko/edit?usp=sharing>.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like more information.

Thanks!
Steve

Hello!

Ive been asked to attend a UCPath SCT Redesign session tomorrow (11/30/22) at 3:30pm in order to defend UCB's request to be able to split only a portion of a paycheck for workstudy. This request has been partially implemented as a 'Flexible Option' but it does not satisfy our original ask, and it sounds like representatives from several campuses are pushing back on it.

I do not think the design sessions have many/any Financial Aid people there, so if you think it would be a good idea to be able to partially split a paycheck, please let your ucpath representative know before 3:30 tomorrow. I think the jira is UCP-123336. Basically, our proposal is that the SCT system should allow us to use ApplyWS on some lines in an SCT and Leave As Is to others.

Here is a scenario:

  *   Student fully earned workstudy
  * Student then got an outside award and now we need to reduce workstudy to stay within Need

If we do not a working Flexible Option, the proposed "work around" is this (which can span several weeks to fully complete):

  1. Reverse the split paycheck using "Remove WS"
  2. Wait for that SCT to process
  3. Reduce the award via the I-159
  4. Resplit the paycheck using "Apply WS"

Our proposal will allow us to address this in one SCT:

Example:
$310.52 split in this paycheck, but we need to reduce earnings to $300 to make room for the new scholarship

Original SCT Lines:
W $217.36
D $93.16

Modify to:
$300 - "ReApply WS" (use D chartstring)
$10.52 - "Leave As Is" (use D chartstring)

Anyhow, apologies for the long email.

Thanks!
Steve
