Hello Colleagues!

We are midway through the Fall semester and campus is bustling back to life! Student Employment Services has successfully onboarded unprecedented numbers of student employees to support the re-opening of campus! We would like to take a moment to thank our campus partners for your patience, hard work, and support! We could not have done it without you and would like to share special thanks to our Dining Services team for sharing their space with us to host hiring events since the start of the Fall semester!
Intake/Onboarding Updates:
Student Employment Services has moved offices! We are now located in KL122G, previously the Cashier’s office, on the first floor of the Kolligian Library, behind the Lantern Café and next door to the BobCat Advising Center.
To support UC Merced’s student hiring needs, Student Employment Services will continue, through the month of October, to host walk-in intake appointments to complete the new hire paperwork 9:00am-4:00pm, M-F. New hires will need to bring original, unexpired documents to complete the Form I-9. Photos/copies cannot be accepted. A full list of the acceptable documents can be found here<https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents>.
Starting November 1st, new student hires will be required to schedule an intake appointment with Student Employment Services through Handshake. Remember to submit an intake request<https://studentjobs.ucmerced.edu/form/student-intake-request> for each new hire. Once an intake request has been submitted, student hires will receive an email with a link to schedule their intake appointment with Student Employment Services.
If a department’s hiring needs exceed 10 student hires (with the same expected start date), we ask that you contact our office so that we may coordinate hiring events to best support onboarding needs.
As a gentle reminder, student employees may not begin working or training until they have fully completed the hiring process. A Clear to Work Notice will inform the student and supervisor when the hiring process has been completed. Processing into UCPath, approval, and system access may take up to 7-10 business days. To avoid delays in system or building access, please plan ahead and hire accordingly.
Recruitment Reminders/Updates:
On-campus student jobs are now posted in Handshake! To create an Employer Account to advertise student jobs, go here<https://studentjobs.ucmerced.edu/form/handshake-employer-account-request>. If your department has an existing Employer Account in Handshake and you wish to post a job, go here<https://studentjobs.ucmerced.edu/form/job-posting-request>. For more information, please go here<https://studentjobs.ucmerced.edu/handshake>.
Student Employment Services is pleased to share that our Federal Work Study Student Employment work group has developed enhancements for Federal Work Study (FWS) Job Postings in Handshake. Only FWS eligible students will be able to view and apply for FWS jobs. Student applicants that are not FWS eligible will no longer be able to apply to FWS jobs.
To post a FWS job, select the “Federal Work Study candidates ONLY” designation when submitting the Job Posting Request<https://studentjobs.ucmerced.edu/form/job-posting-request>. If you are experiencing any issues with applicant package receipt, please contact our office at studentemployment at ucmerced.edu<mailto:studentemployment at ucmerced.edu>.
Thank you for providing on-campus job opportunities for our students!

Well wishes,
