Welcome to UC Merced’s Academic Year 2020/2021!
Student Employment Services<mailto:studentemployment at ucmerced.edu> looks forward to assisting with your recruiting and hiring needs. Please note that our office staff are currently remote but are happy to meet with you via phone or zoom session to provide guidance and support. Below are a list of updates and reminders related to on campus student employment as we move into this new academic year.
RECRUITMENT
Student Employment Services is happy to announce an updated process to the student employment recruitment process.
The Student Employment Job Description<https://bfs.ucmerced.edu/sites/bfs.ucmerced.edu/files/page/documents/2020_08_27_jd_template.pdf> form has been simplified to collect only information relevant to the functions of the position.
A Job Posting Request<https://bfs.ucmerced.edu/form/job-posting-request> online form has been created to help guide users and create a consistent and clear process regarding the posting request process.
The legacy Job Description/Job Posting combined form will continue to be accepted through September 30, 2020. Effective October 1, 2020 the new process will be required for all new job posting submissions.
Additional information regarding the hiring process can be found here<https://bfs.ucmerced.edu/student-employment/how-to-hire>.
HIRING
Once a finalist has been identified, please update the Student Employment Job Description form to include the student’s name and have both the supervisor and employee sign.
* If a Federal Work Study eligibility hire, please obtain the Federal Work Study Contract and review with your new hire. For assistance, please contact Financial Aid<mailto:jlingenfelter at ucmerced.edu>.
* If the student will work remotely, please have the student complete a Temporary Telecommute Agreement<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=0019uyadelNZ5dwMc18LMI5WMlQ9VeMGLwYDhVxrdAE7bJO6KeQLRxSGfGSH2pBPs5AmB-l9MjSJL6vzF_jz5LRdMXSkkSgdH2hYtK-PsQIK0X3L6d6e5A0MKFTiepLg05sqsUcMgu_1gxxrVnYXSqJadfT0K_NTyMgOhla5tupETofe_RM6udo2bBrmdir-O4JY6aoQRqQ4DcrZ1-SJAQJnqkiEwPMbsjwJrH_A8Ng5vcetmnnLtQiWp5BzECSKWyRlA38JhHBVRa8hmxpvwG9Asq8d5S6fK3H3eZmMu1RCbY=&c=v3ruHddn86SReBbyjX6glILezT5zXXTeB3v9lYMN3_-9z1V41_KkfQ==&ch=wRhIIIvak8FmLzYr0D2TYPb1pzsH6KeK5Umbo7k21O4RF0MST8xBGA==> form.
Complete the Student Intake Request<https://bfs.ucmerced.edu/form/student-intake-request> online form; attaching the fully signed Job Description and any other supplemental agreements (FWS, Telecommute, Etc.).
Please be mindful of start dates. Same day hires are not usually possible due to the federal, state and University policies related to employment, which must be completed before a person performs services for the University. The current intake timeline is approximately 5 business days from the date the Student Intake Request<https://bfs.ucmerced.edu/form/student-intake-request> is submitted. However, it may take an extended period of time to complete the intake process due to impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The employee and the direct supervisor listed on the Student Intake Request will receive a “Clear to Work Notice” email when all required documents have been successfully completed. No services should be performed before receipt of the notification.
TELECOMMUTING
Student employees who are working remote should complete the Temporary Telecommute Agreement<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=0019uyadelNZ5dwMc18LMI5WMlQ9VeMGLwYDhVxrdAE7bJO6KeQLRxSGfGSH2pBPs5AmB-l9MjSJL6vzF_jz5LRdMXSkkSgdH2hYtK-PsQIK0X3L6d6e5A0MKFTiepLg05sqsUcMgu_1gxxrVnYXSqJadfT0K_NTyMgOhla5tupETofe_RM6udo2bBrmdir-O4JY6aoQRqQ4DcrZ1-SJAQJnqkiEwPMbsjwJrH_A8Ng5vcetmnnLtQiWp5BzECSKWyRlA38JhHBVRa8hmxpvwG9Asq8d5S6fK3H3eZmMu1RCbY=&c=v3ruHddn86SReBbyjX6glILezT5zXXTeB3v9lYMN3_-9z1V41_KkfQ==&ch=wRhIIIvak8FmLzYr0D2TYPb1pzsH6KeK5Umbo7k21O4RF0MST8xBGA==> form.
