Inventory & Monitoring Program - Open on USA Jobs Until Dec 27

Hi All,

Please circulate this opportunity to forest and vegetation ecologists that
may be interested in joining the Sierra Nevada Network Inventory &
Monitoring program. Located within the headquarters of Sequoia National
Park, the network conducts long-monitoring in Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and
Yosemite National Parks, as well as Devils Postpile National Monument.

The ecologist is responsible for implementation of two long-term monitoring
programs - high elevation forests (whitebark and foxtail pine) and wetland
ecological integrity, which focuses on groundwater hydrology,
invertebrates, and plant communities in wet meadows and fens. Surveys are
conducted in remote wilderness locations: SIEN is seeking someone skilled
in conducting fieldwork in mountainous terrain to oversee the field crews
that collect the data. Crews are self-supported, backpacking for ~8 days at
a time to reach and work at remote study sites. Being mountain parks, the
field season is constrained to between June and October. In the off season
the ecologist is responsible for managing, summarizing, analyzing, and
publishing the data associated with these monitoring programs. I&M is
looking for someone with strong quantitative skills to take on these tasks.

It is a compelling time to engage with forest health issues in the Sierra
Nevada, with many partnerships afoot with USFS, USGS, and university
scientists.

The announcement is open to all sources.

Thanks,

Daniel
