Hello All,
This email is to announce and invite interested parties to join (if you have not already) our Mathematical Biology Seminar Series.
The goal of our seminar is to explore the use of mathematical methods (modeling, analysis, statistics, computation, etc) to the study of biological phenomena. In the past, topics have covered a broad range of analytical & statistical mathematical methods and biological domains. A typical talk in our seminar will involve someone presenting an on-going research project, giving a practice for a conference/qualifying exam or presenting a published article of interest.
Most of our speakers have been UC Merced faculty, post-docs and graduate students, but we also welcome outside speakers. We hope many new folks will join us this semester and bring their research methods and scientific questions.
This semester our seminar will be Wednesday's from 9:30 to 10:30am in ACS 362B.
Our first meeting will be next Wednesday (September 4th) . The first 30 minutes graduate students Akshay Paropkari (QSB) and Ali Heydari (Applied Math) will share their experience from their summer internships. The last 30 minutes will be an organizational meeting to plan for the semester.
Once the schedule is determined it will be posted on our website: https://appliedmath.ucmerced.edu/node/52
(This website also contains details about our seminar including schedules from our past semesters.)
This semester our seminar will be one of four SMaRT Teams associated with an NSF-RTG grant to the Applied Mathematics Program (PIs: Arnold Kim, Roummel Marcia, Francois Blanchette). This means that if you are a student who wants to receive credit, you can register for a 2 Unit directed study course (CRN: 37115).
If you would like to be on our mailing list, you can add yourself at the following link: https://bit.ly/2LgjnT6
Finally, we regularly post about activities on our Twitter account<https://twitter.com/ucm_mathbio?s=17> (@ucm_mathbio). We encourage you to follow us and tweet at us interesting papers to read.
If there are questions or comments, please let me know.
Looking forward to seeing many of you next (and future) Wednesday(s)!
Best,
Suzanne Sindi
