Quick reminder of tomorrow’s meeting:
Sergio volunteered for June 7, and has decided on one https://arxiv.org/pdf/2103.03442.pdf
This is an excellent paper. I’m convinced that sector coupling is going to be key in the energy transition – we won’t be able to electrify everything in the next 20 years – it will be easier to transition many of the applications to using hydrogen. You might think this is unrelated to the grid, but it actually makes a huge difference for the grid if you can run electrolyzers at < 100% capacity factors. Then electrolysis allows overbuild of solar and wind without nearly as much curtailment (there will still be some curtailment). Using the hydrogen to generate electricity later on isn’t so useful because of the low efficiency, but currently the power sector only represents and 1/3 of total energy, so there is potential to use a LOT of hydrogen. I hope you’ll have a chance to look at the paper before we meet tomorrow.
As discussed, the plan will be to ask everyone who wants to participate to sign up for presenting one paper

When we finish the cycle, we’ll cancel the rest of them for the summer and take a break before restarting for the fall.
Thanks for your participation!
