Hi, Sarah!

Long time, no see.  I hope that you’ve been weathering the pandemic reasonably well.  My wife and I have now been vaccinated so we were able to hug our daughter yesterday for the first time in over a year.

I just recently became aware of the subject project<https://news.ucmerced.edu/news/2020/new-project-shining-light-energy-storage> that you started last summer for the CEC.  It turns out that Fred Morse, Dave Kearney, and I with some help from Luis Crespo were also thinking about California’s need for long-term energy storage. We felt that the relative lack of attention that has been given to CSP’s thermal energy storage as a component in meeting that need is likely an impediment to finding an optimum solution.  We came up with the attached presentation to highlight the existing global experience with CSP+TES in hopes of making the subject more visible to California’s grid planners.  I hope that you will find it of some use to your study as well.  We’d be happy to discuss this with your team if you’d like.
