Yes, my apology that I didn’t respond to this over the weekend. Thank you, Kenji, for doing such a nice job!
It seems to me that we need to talk about these differences. Is this group meeting this Thursday - could we talk about it then?

This is really helpful, Kenji. Thanks for condensing the info in such a useful way.
The discrepancies are quite big, and especially in storage, so this points to the fact that we'll both (a) need to update our data, and (b) compare vs. E3's sources.
I didn't see notes on where E3 gather their data from, so I assume that's not available (?).
I attended an IEA conference last year and asked one of the presenters for the sources he used for his modeling.
He shared a few documents that I'll pass along in a bit, but perhaps we can set this as tasks to divide amongst the group.
Best,
Sergio

Hi all,
I wrote a quick comparison of the cost projection of four selected technologies (natural gas, wind, solar PV, and battery storage) used in RESOLVE and SWITCH as attached.
Please take a look and let me know what you think.
Best,
Kenji

Thank you, Sarah! Then I will compare capex in annualized form.
Switch uses a 7% discount rate as default. Lifetime of each technology is
- central PV: 20 yrs
- battery: 10 yrs
- CCGT: 20 yrs
- wind: 30 yrs
I will write up a cost comparison tonight.
Best regards,
Kenji

Yes, Kenji! That is the correct column.
RESOLVE doesn’t include the lifetime and discount rate in an obvious place. We can sometimes find mention of them in a write up, but then they appear to change from time to time.
What lifetime and discount rate does Switch use? I think this is part of the comparison…
Thanks for asking good questions!, so even if we find them written somewhere, I wouldn’t have confidence that we know what was assumed...

Hi Sarah,
Thank you for the email. Which column represents the Capex?
Is annual_fixed_cost_by_vintage annualized capex?
If so, to compare it with overnight cost data in SWITCH, what are discount rate and lifetime of each technology?
Best regards,
Kenji

Kenji,
I think you’ll find the data for the Capex (not the fuel cost) for these four in the file I sent last night.
Thanks!

Hi Pedro,
As we discussed today, it would be great if you could send the cost related data (including capex) of
- solar PV
- battery storage
- natural gas
- onshore wind
in RESOLVE model?
Also, I'd appreciate it if you could send the documents describing the definitions of those data.
Thanks,
Kenji

Dear all,
The ones confirmed for today are: Pedro, Kenji and me? We can go over the next tasks and have a 30 min meeting instead.
Thanks for the updates Julia!

Hi everyone,
This meeting also fell off my calendar and I have a scheduling conflict now and can't make it.
I can provide an email update:
I'm close to finishing the scraping and data cleaning of the existing WECC generation projects and retirements to add for the baseline scenario in the database. This will update the composition of the existing fleet of generation projects to 2018 from the previous 2015 vintage, and reflects an increase of solar and battery capacity, and retirements of coal and other generation. I am completing some final checks and code improvements on some backup database tables before pushing the data to the original database tables.

Pedro, Paty, Kenji,
Thanks for the reminder. I hadn't added this recurring meeting in my calendar and now have a conflict with another commitment.
I know the storage issue with Notion is being addressed, but any notes sharing from today's meeting will be greatly appreciated.
Also, it's settled that this will be our weekly time then? (so I can add it on my calendar, or we can use a ldes-coremodel one)
Thanks,
Sergio
PS. From my end, the only update is that thanks to Lars/Paty I have now access to db2 and postgres. I would now only require access to the WECC db/schema.
