Workshop Description:
Medical school advice is everywhere, but much of it is second-hand, outdated, or confidently delivered by people who have no clue how admissions decisions are actually made. This workshop is designed for community college and university premed students who want a clear, accurate understanding of what it takes to be competitive at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.<https://pritzker.uchicago.edu/> Keme Carter, MD, Associate Dean for Admissions and Professor, will explain how Pritzker<https://pritzker.uchicago.edu/> evaluates applicants beyond GPA and MCAT, including evidence of intellectual curiosity, service orientation, sustained commitment, leadership, teamwork, research or scholarly engagement, and mission fit. You will learn how committees interpret your experiences, letters, essays, and interview performance, and how to avoid common pitfalls that weaken otherwise strong applications. You can come, ask your questions, and get answers directly from the source in a practical, supportive format. Whether you are early in your premed journey or preparing to apply soon, you will leave with clearer expectations, smarter priorities, and concrete next steps to strengthen your application with integrity, purpose, and impact.



About the Speaker:
Dr. Keme Carter is a Professor at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine<https://pritzker.uchicago.edu/> where she serves as Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine<https://pritzker.uchicago.edu/>, Associate Vice-Chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Education for the Department of Medicine, and the Director of the Emergency Medicine Clerkship. Dr. Carter obtained her bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and completed her residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago Medicine. Dr. Carter has been recognized for her excellence as a medical educator by her peers, residents, and students. At the Pritzker School of Medicine, she has been inducted as a Master in the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators. She has been honored for her contributions to medical education with the Doroghazi Outstanding Clinical Teaching Award, the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, and the Biological Sciences Division Distinguished Educator/Mentor Award for Excellence in Clinical Education.

Through Dr. Carter’s research, writing, public speaking engagements, and medical school admissions work, she continues to advocate for and work towards optimizing and ensuring an equitable pathway for students along the continuum of medical education. Additionally, Dr. Carter’s research interests are focused on exploring the nuances of communication within the emergency department and developing and studying
