[Health_scholars] Medical Education Courses, Fall 2026: MED 001 and MED 101

Good morning Health Scholars,

The UC Merced Department of Medical Education will be offering a new two-part series of courses designed to support students interested in health professions. Please see descriptions of each course below:


  1.
MED 001 - Health Professions, Wednesdays 1:30-2:20PM

This 1-unit lower division seminar course provides students with an introduction to health, how healthcare is delivered and basic skills to be successful as a future health professional. Students will dive into the current landscape of healthcare to better define their interests and goals. Topics include pathway planning, pre-health competencies, study skills, and contemporary health topics. Course format includes lectures, guest speakers, panels, case studies, and discussions. Students will have the opportunity to join a mentorship program led by health professionals.
Note: If you have taken USTU 09 - 03 in the past, MED 001 course content will be the same. We are reserving enrollment for students who have not registered previously.

MED 101 - Health Professions Career Launch, Wednesdays 12:30-1:20PM

This new 1-unit upper division seminar course provides students with deeper exploration of health topics and careers with an emphasis on refining interests and goals. This includes career decision making and strategies for successful professional school applications (i.e., standardized test study skills, personal statement drafting, resume/CV refinement, competency reflection, etc.). Course format includes lectures, guest speakers, panels, case studies, and discussions. Students will have the opportunity to join a mentorship program led by health professionals.

To register, find and select Medical Education courses MED 001 or MED 101, or use the following CRNs:

(Note: Course content of each course will be repeated each semester. If you are unable to register this semester, please look out for information about registering Spring 2027.)
