Subject: Spring Research Group Meeting

All,

Our next research group meeting is going to be on Thursday January 8,2026. Reflecting on the year, our group has accomplished a lot. Here are a few highlights:

  1. We welcomed two new FEWS members, Nigar and Marcelino

  1. Weichao's paper published in Ecological Modeling: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0304380025003187 & UCM press release: https://news.ucmerced.edu/news/2025/forest-carbon-store-it-or-burn-it-actually-both-best

  1. Stefano got his last, & final, dissertation chapter accepted in the journal of ecohydrology (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/19360592)

  1. Berhanu got his MAR review paper accepted in the journal of Environmental Reviews (https://cdnsciencepub.com/journal/er)

  1. We submitted two new proposals to USDA NIFA

  1. Abhishek leading the state's Sierra Climate Report and getting it to near finish line.

  1. A successful 4th State of the Tulare Basin Conference

Obviously, we also have scope for improvements. I will discuss those with you all individually in the new year. Take some time off and refuel. Please note that the campus will be closed from Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Thursday, Jan. 1, and reopen for business Friday, Jan. 2, 2025. You will be able to get in the building, but most campus services will be closed.

Regards,
