This is the first volume of an email that will be sent out regularly with updates about the fall instruction plan. These emails will be sent to all faculty every two weeks, or more frequently if there is timely information. In order to keep the updates easily digestible, these will be brief bullet points without greetings, banners or other non-essential details.

  * In case you missed it, the recording of the Fall Instruction Planning town hall<https://publicrelations.ucmerced.edu/town-halls> is now available.

  * We have a new Fall 2021 COVID FAQ<https://doyourpart.ucmerced.edu/fall-2021-coronavirus-faq> which will be updated bi-weekly with responses on questions from the community.

  * The recent announcement<https://www.gov.ca.gov/2021/04/06/governor-newsom-outlines-the-states-next-step-in-the-covid-19-pandemic-recovery-moving-beyond-the-blueprint/> from the CA Governor on the state reopening plan is conducive to our fall reopening plan and means that it is increasingly likely that we will be able to operate in-person courses at normal classroom capacities.

  * As you think about utilizing technology in your fall courses, consider reaching out to OIT to consult on the capabilities of your classroom and for support.

  * The release of the medical accommodation process for fall instructors has been delayed at least until May due to coordination at system-level.

  * Though we are returning to campus instruction, we hope that the university instructional community and individual instructors will be looking to innovate how we deliver our learning experiences and capture the best of the affordances of online and in-person learning environments. In the coming year, we would love to see new models for instruction emerge on our campus and allow our students to learn and thrive in a variety of learning contexts. In order to support that innovation,
     * The Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning will be offering faculty fellowships to work on course redesign this summer by attending a series of workshops in May and working with an educational consultant on their courses.
     * UGC is extending the deadline to submit alternative modality proposals for online, hybrid, or hyflex courses until May 1st.
     * We will be offering teaching innovation ideation sessions for faculty to come to together and talk about the future of higher education and ideas for transforming our campus learning environments.
     * Check out the following articles for examples of national perspectives on the future of higher education:
