[Sshagradstudents] INVITE: Perspectives on Creativity Lecture Series

This invitation has been sent out on behalf of the Department of Global Arts, Media, and Writing Studies:

The sixth annual Global Arts, Media, and Writing Studies Lecture Series returns for the 2021-22 season. The lecture series provides the Merced community with the opportunity to interact with professors conducting cutting edge research in many different academic fields. The theme of the lecture series this year is "Perspectives on Creativity," an exploration of how creative processes are used in many academic endeavors and how they lead to important insights that benefit humanity. Faculty conducting research in mathematics, public health, biology, history, literature, and business management will present insights from their research from a layperson's perspective and how creativity has been a central component of their work. This year, the lecture series will be held at the Merced County Library, 2100 O Street in downtown Merced. The presenters this year are:

October 13: Dr. Arnold Kim, Professor of Applied Math, "Math is Supposed to Be Beautiful"
October 27: Dr. Gilberto Lopez, Assistant Professor of Public Health, Arizona State University, "Combatting Vaccine Misinformation through Art"
November 10: Dr. Kim McMillon, "Inclusivity and the Black Arts Movement"
February 9: Dr. Chris Amemiya, Professor of Developmental Biology, "Music to Creativity in Biological Thought"
March 9: Dr. Tea Lempiala, Assistant Professor of Management of Innovation, Sustainability, and Technology (MIST), "Empowering Creativity and Innovation in Work Organizations"
April 13: Yiran Xu, Assistant Professor of Writing Studies, "Internet Censorship and Language Creativity"
May 4: Dr. David Torres-Rouff, Associate Professor of History (with Madalyn Lara), "Emerging from the Rubble: Creatively Remembering Merced's 'Lost' Chinatown"
