Subject: 2024 Sierra Nevada Science Symposium call for abstracts (due
12/18/23)
To:
Dear SNRI colleagues and affiliates,
Please consider presenting at this year’s Sierra Nevada Science Symposium
and share with your relevant grad students and researchers. We hope not
only to have a good showing of SNRI/UC Merced research, but also to provide
fruitful networking opportunities among faculty, academic researchers and
agency researchers & managers.
Thank you for your consideration, see the website and information below,
and please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any of the other organizers
with questions.
Best regards,
Molly

Dear colleagues,
We invite submission of abstracts for individual contributed presentations
for the
*2024 Sierra Nevada Science Symposium*
*“Sierra Nevada Past Present Future: Management in Changing Environments.”*
*University of California, Merced Conference Center*
*Meeting Date: March 5-6, 2024*
*Abstract Submission Deadline: 12/18/2023*
The symposium agenda will feature a keynote speaker for each of three eras
(past, present, & future), lightning talks, invited talks, time for
brainstorming and networking, and panel discussions.
We seek presentations from a range of disciplines - potential themes
include: traditional ecological knowledge, science communication, science
policy and decision making, collaborative and convergence science, climate
change, adaptive management and more. We encourage presenters to consider
how their research intersects with the broader framework of “time” and
“change” (e.g., climate, environment, policy, human, other) and the themes
above.
*See the* *symposium website
<https://snri.ucmerced.edu/events/2024-sierra-nevada-science-symposium>* *for
abstract submission and stay tuned for more information on registration and
agenda.*
*Hope to see you there!*

*About the Symposium: *
The Sierra Nevada Science Symposium unites Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings
Canyon National Parks, Devils Postpile National Monument, the US Geological
Survey, the Sierra Nevada Inventory & Monitoring Network, university
researchers and the broader science community to celebrate the history of
science, learn more about current work, and look toward the future of
research in the Sierra Nevada parks. We aim to: CELEBRATE the strong
relationships between land managers, scientists, and the research
community; COMMUNICATE recent research results and current resource issues
in the parks; CONSIDER the future of park research and management. By
placing the Symposium on the UC Merced campus, we seek to expand and
solidify regional scientific collaborations and partnerships to address
challenges posed by climate change and other resource threats, and to
encourage and support more research within these parks to further
scientific knowledge and inform management decisions. The theme this year
is Sierra Nevada Past, Present, Future: Management in Changing
Environments. The symposium agenda features a keynote speaker for each era
(past, present, future), lightning talks, invited talks, time for
brainstorming and networking, and panel discussions.
