Position Summary
The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

The Geosciences Program at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites
applications for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of
Assistant Professor to begin August 2024. We seek a hydrologist with a
strong background in the geosciences and significant field experience. The
specific area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to
candidates who complement departmental faculty strengths.

The Geology program is in the Department of Geosciences and Natural
Resources, which is also home to major programs in Environmental Science
and Natural Resource Conservation and Management. Teaching responsibilities
include introductory courses, a course in soils and hydrology, and advanced
courses in the candidateâÂ?ÂTs area of specialization that serve majors in
our program and department.

The campus encompasses about 600 acres and includes a hydrological research
station, developed in partnership with the State (DEQ) and NSF support. The
department is growing with a strong reputation in the environmental
sciences, and a commitment to experiential learning, and undergraduate
research. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong commitment
to innovation and excellence in teaching, make use of our on-campus
hydrological research station, develop a research program that includes
some regional focus, provide research opportunities for students, and seek
external funding to help support our mission. Western Carolina University

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate should have a PhD in the geosciences; ABD candidates will be
considered if they can demonstrate all requirements for their degree will
be complete by August 1, 2024. Degrees must be from an accredited
institution.

Candidates with teaching experience are preferred.
