Dear colleagues,

This is a reminder that our open house is tomorrow! Please encourage all of
your students interested in computational research to attend the open house
and apply for our NSF-funded program. Please see below for more details --

I am pleased to announce that applications are now open for the second year
of our NSF-funded National Research Training in Interdisciplinary
Computational Graduate Education. Please encourage first-year doctoral
students in your program who are interested in computational sciences,
broadly defined, to come to our Open House on November 7, 2017, especially
if they are domestic students who are members of groups underrepresented in
their fields or first-generation students.

Varying levels of knowledge about computational research are fine. In
addition to programming lessons in several languages, we will focus on
skills and resources that will help students to thrive in graduate school,
on project management and team work (skills industry often finds lacking in
those coming out of the academy), and engage them in interdisciplinary
teams to explore real world computational problems. This course is led by
Graduate Dean Marjorie Zatz, SoE Associate Dean Paul Maglio, and Professors
Michael Spivey, Michael Colvin, Sayantani Ghosh, Arnold Kim, Ashlie
Martini, Suzanne Sindi, and Mukesh Singhal, and supported by an advisory
board from the National Laboratories and industry.

The Open House will be held on November 7, 2017 in KL232 from 3:30-5:00pm.

Applications are now open! Deadline for applications is 5:00 pm Thursday
November 20. Priority will be given to domestic students who are members of
groups underrepresented in their fields or first-generation students. For
those admitted into the program, we ask that they hold the date December 1,
2017 for our launch.

The application is available here: http://graduatedivision.
