AAMC Fee Assistance Program
The AAMC is dedicated to supporting future physicians on their journey to medical school and strongly believes that the costs associated with applying to medical school should not be a barrier. One resource to help offset some of the application costs is the AAMC Fee Assistance Program<https://click.email.aamc.org/?qs=d8e4355306741c5625cf62cdeee839fbc841840e2c07dfc29e6bd5603b8e5611d2b2fdacdd35f02235e1a0b70b1333b6d7d9ed2a45506040>. The program assists those who, without financial assistance, would be unable to take the Medical College Admission Test(r) (MCAT(r)), apply to medical schools using the American Medical College Application Service(r) (AMCAS(r)), and more.
The 2025 AAMC Fee Assistance Program application is now open. Here are five things for advisors to know:
1. New in 2025! AAMC Fee Assistance Program recipients can elect to receive the MCAT Official Prep products every time they are approved. The AAMC Fee Assistance Program now offers expanded access to MCAT Official Prep products. Starting in 2025, Fee Assistance recipients can receive MCAT prep materials every time they are approved for benefits instead of just once in their lifetime. This change provides greater flexibility and support for students prepping for the MCAT exam without a limitation on accessing AAMC's prep products through the program.
2. Applicants must fulfill three requirements to be eligible for the AAMC Fee Assistance Program. 1) They must have a U.S.-based home address. 2) Each household reported on their application must have a 2024 total family income equal to or less than 400% of the 2024 national poverty level for that family size. 3) They must be preparing to apply to medical school. Specifically, applicants for AAMC Fee Assistance must not be currently accepted or enrolled in any medical school, have graduated from medical school, or be preparing to apply for residency.
3. The AAMC Fee Assistance Program includes an Electronic Residency Application Service(r) (ERAS(r)) application benefit. The AAMC expanded the program to include residency applicants who were previously approved for the Fee Assistance Program benefits during their medical school application process. Please note that medical students are not eligible to apply for the Fee Assistance Program as it is only available during the premedical application phase. Qualifying applicants will automatically receive a 60 percent fee discount on up to 50 ERAS applications when they go through the residency application process.
4. Applicants aged 26 and over are not required to submit their parents' financial information. If an applicant is age 26 on the day their application is submitted, they will not be required to submit their parental financial information.
5. Some medical schools waive secondary application fees for fee assistance recipients. Schools include this information in their Medical School Admissions Requirements (MSAR)<https://click.email.aamc.org/?qs=d8e4355306741c560f0ea6b334f8e541de0a811bf997a18ca2567872e7a099faae50346b55adeeb746c8516bb527b17cf9ca95310aa88152> profiles. This information can be found under the "Secondary application - Fee Waiver Ability" section of the MSAR.
