Pre-Health Scholars Peer Advisor Job Opportunity

 

The Undergraduate Pre-Health Scholars Program seeks to recruit, support, and retain students from under-represented or minority backgrounds in their efforts towards obtaining a degree in a pre-health field and successfully entering a health profession. The Pre-Health Scholars Peer Advisors are experienced pre-health students who available to provide advise to their fellow students about the details of pre-health studies at UC Merced. The Pre-Health Scholars Peer Advisors will receive training on the academic and experiential requirements for admission to medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary medical, physical therapy schools and other selected health professional school programs. In addition, the peer advisors would be responsible for working with prospective, current and former students on a variety of health advising-related issues, including but not limited to, course sequencing and selection, extracurricular activities, internships, research and application process. Also, the Pre-Health Scholars Peer Advisors would be assigned a specific student case load and would provide a variety of services to their students. Furthermore, the peer advisors would assist the Health Professions Advisor during peak advising periods and with campus events, such as Bobcat Day, Orientation and Preview Day. Additional responsibilities would include, updating the Pre-Health Advising website, adding content to the Pre-Health Advising newsletter, and managing the Pre-Health Advising Facebook account.



The Undergraduate Pre-Health Scholars Program is funded by a grant from The California Wellness Foundation (TCWF). Created in 1992 as a private independent foundation, TCWF's mission is to improve the health of the people of California by making grants for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention
