[Ucwsfiscal] UC WORK STUDY AND FISCAL WORKGROUP: Grad and Prof. Cost of Attendance Question

Good morning all.

Hope this email finds you well during this busy new aid year preparation time!

I have a question related to cost of attendance (COA) for grad and professional students: we used OP provided 2016-17 survey data to calculate the living portion of COA and plan to do the same with the new 2022 survey. However this time we noticed a pretty large difference in housing and food allowance between academic grad students and professional students. It doesn't make much sense academic grad students live a more expense life than professional students in the same city. We are concerned about equity and are considering taking a weighted average approach: we'd calculate a weighted average of the 2 numbers and use it for both academic and professional students. We got support from large professional programs like MD, VM but some smaller professional programs preferred to use survey data as is.

I'd like to see if any of you adopt the survey data and if so, how do you? The report shows there're gaps across almost all UCs but Davis, SF, SB & Riverside seem to have biggest gap. I appreciate any feedback.
