[UCM-Student-Success] Student Success within Advising

Hello Everyone,

Continuing the conversations of student success at UC Merced, I would like to share with you a collaborative effort across all advising units to support our students' educational journey. Since 2016 (started working collaboratively on assessment in 2014) the Campus Academic Advising Assessment Workgroup, under the UC Merced Academic Advising Community (UCMAAC), has worked to evaluate programs conducted by undergraduate academic advisors across all units (i.e., JumpStart Your 3rd Year, Academic Difficulty Intervention, etc.). The workgroup has done this by collecting quantitative and qualitative data to inform decisions about programs and their effectiveness to contribute to student success. As the campus continues to grow, the assessment committee strives to evaluate shared programs to represent the needs of our diverse student population.

In 2017-18 academic year, the workgroup continued efforts to evaluate a cross campus Academic Difficulty Intervention for students with academic standing of 'subject to academic dismissal'(SD) . Our analysis demonstrated a positive relationship between student participation in the intervention and their GPA at the end of the term. The UCMAAC has worked together since 2016 to align communication dates, processing, and content provided to students. By working collaboratively, analyzing data, and implementing change, the UCMAAC continues its efforts to support student success at UC Merced.
