Dear sustainability faculty:

The biggest question is, do you agree with the system setting direct emission reduction targets of a minimum 30% by 2030 and 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2045? All for a 2009 baseline year.  I’ve heard that some campuses are interested to have less ambitious goals. So, our opinion/feedback is important.

… the proposed decarbonization policy has recently been updated based on feedback from the Pathways to a Fossil Free UC Task Force and the Global Climate Leadership Council meeting last week.

In general, the draft policy modifications include the following:

  *   A background section (will not be included in final policy language)
  *   Replacement of net-zero terminology
  *   Prioritization of the climate justice section
  *   Inclusion of UC-initiated offsets in meeting reduction targets
