Hello All,
The academic senate Executive Director at UCSF asked to broadly promote this event, see below.
He wrote: "I think for the general public (outside of UCSF), the first hour or so will be the most interesting, as we will have a keynote speaker, addressing electrification more generally. His name is Norman C. Bay, former Chairman of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERQ), who is a partner in the Corporate and Financial Services Department at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, Co-Chair of the Energy and Commodities Group, and Head of the Energy Regulatory and Enforcement Group in Washington. Bay is an expert on electrification and building out the grid and has spoken publicly on the topic.”

Re: UCSF Academic Senate Division Meeting: Electrification of UCSF
Dear UC Faculty, Students, and Guests:
The UCSF Academic Senate, supported by our Committee on Sustainability<https://senate.ucsf.edu/committee/44>, is proud to announce that our November 4th Division meeting is on the important topic of Electrification of UCSF.
The growing interest in electrifying colleges and universities to avert the worst effects of global warming and climate change has been gaining momentum. Indeed, the UCSF Sustainability Office recently reported<https://sustainability.ucsf.edu/3.908> that the majority of our campus’ emissions come from natural gas, with approximately 58 percent originating from the cogeneration plant. The UC Green New Deal Coalition advocacy organization has called for the University to make detailed, shovel-ready electrification plans on each campus. Actions for the transition to cleaner energy sources need to be implemented with consideration of power grid issues and government regulations.
The keynote speaker is Norman C. Bay<https://www.willkie.com/professionals/b/bay-norman>, former Chairman of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERQ), who is a partner in the Corporate and Financial Services Department at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, Co-Chair of the Energy and Commodities Group, and Head of the Energy Regulatory and Enforcement Group in Washington. Bay is an expert on electrification and building out the grid and has spoken publicly on the topic.
Campus panel speakers include Gail Lee, Director of the Office of Sustainability, and Paul Landry, Interim Director of Utilities & Engineering, UCSF Facilities Services, to provide local perspectives.
We hope you will join us and engage in discussion on actions that may be taken to combat climate crisis. Please feel free to respond to this email with any comments or questions you have for the panelists.
