[Studentemployment] Update on Student Hiring Delays

[Student Employment]

Colleagues,

Student Employment Services is experiencing significant delays in delivering its core functions because of staffing constraints and the impacts of COVID-19. We recognize the important role student workers have on our campus and are working as quickly as possible to address the backlog of requests.

We are managing the current issues in three ways.


  1.  Students whose new hire intake request was sent to SES prior to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 will receive an email asking them to designate how they would like to complete their intake. Their response will determine how they will complete their hiring process. Those who are able to attend in person intake appointments on campus should schedule an appointment within the Handshake application. Those who elect remote intake will be invited to a presentation scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14. This informational session will prepare them to complete the remote process and aims to minimize confusion surrounding the process. Remote intake processing will start at noon Friday, Jan. 14 and continue through Jan. 31 or when the campus returns to in-person learning.
  2.  Effective Thursday, Jan. 13, new student intake requests will automatically generate a notification to the student with information regarding how to sign up for a remote intake appointment.
  3.  Once the campus resumes in-person instruction, SES will host a hiring event outside KL122 to facilitate completion of new hire forms and to assist those who started a remote process but were unable to complete it before the return to campus.

SES is working to onboard and train new staff in the coming weeks.
