Welcome to Fall 2022!

Student Employment Services would like to take a moment to provide our campus hiring managers of a few important updates and reminders.

Hours of Work:  During the academic year, students may work no more than 18 hours per week for all jobs combined.  The start of the 18-hour work week will start on Monday, August 22, 2022.

We understand that some departments may need to utilize students to manage return to campus activities.  Hours worked more than 18 during the first week of instruction should be done on an exception basis, with full consideration of the student’s class schedule and personal needs.

Intake/Onboarding:  Intake has been temporarily moved to accommodate a significant increase in appointment requests.

Where:  The Pavilion, Room 105
When: 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday

When a hiring manager submits the Student Intake Request, the student automatically receives a notification with instructions related to the intake process; including details related to our temporary location. Additional communication is being sent directly to students via the Handshake platform.

Clear to Work Notification: We will be providing students with a physical clear to work notice once they have completed the process.  We will continue to provide email notifications in addition to the physical notice, but they will likely be delayed due to processing timelines.  The paper document provided to the student will contain the date the student can begin working.  Please be sure to communicate with your student to confirm hire form completion.

UCPath:  While hire transactions are processed locally, UC Merced uses the systemwide mandated UCPath system.  Due to the seasonal uptick of hires across the system and lingering workforce issues related to Covid 19, some new/rehire appointments may take several days to become active in both the UCPath system and TRS.
