Colleagues,

As we quickly move towards curtailment and the new year, Student Employment Services would like to share some important updates and reminders.

UCPath DOWN TIME

UCPath will be offline starting at 10 pm on December 9 through 6 am on December 14. During this time, employees will not have access to the portal. Additionally, there may be delays to new/re-hire student employee access to TRS.

HANDSHAKE

Effective December 15, 2020 UC Merced will move STUDENT position recruitments to a new on campus job posting platform, Handshake. To facilitate this move, the CatPAWS site will no longer accept new applications after 5 pm on December 11, 2020.

At 5 pm on December 11, 2020, all active job postings will be removed from the CatPAWS platform and will no longer be available for student application submissions. On December 15, 2020 any non-expired postings previously listed in CatPAWS will be transitioned to Handshake. Applications received on or after December 15, 2020 in the new Handshake platform will be forwarded to the “Applicant Reviewer” via email. Please go here<https://studentjobs.ucmerced.edu/handshake/applicant-reviewer-job-aid-handshake> to learn more about the Applicant Reviewer role for Handshake.

Hiring Managers/Supervisors should review their CatPAWS job pools and disposition appropriately no later than January 3, 2021. As of January 4, 2021, access to job pools in CatPAWS will be removed.

Hiring Managers/Supervisors should attend the December 9, 2020 Handshake training session to learn more about how this change will impact them. A separate communication regarding the training will be sent.

EARLY TIMESHEET SUBMISSION FOR BIWEEKLY EMPLOYEES

To accommodate processing of the bi-weekly checks that will issue on January 6, 2020, it is necessary for bi-weekly paid employees to submit timesheets for the period of 12/13/20-12/26/20 earlier than the regular submission date.

Timesheets for the above indicated period will be due for submission by employees no later than 12 pm on Saturday, December 19th and should include predicted hours of work through December 26th. Supervisors should approve timesheets no later than 10 am on Monday, December 21st.

Additional campus wide communication will be distributed during the week of the early submission deadline.

MINIMUM WAGE

Effective 1/1/20 the new minimum wage in California will be $14.00. The adjustment any student earning less than the new minimum wage will be automatically moved up. No action is needed by the department. An updated 2021 student job pay scale can be found here<https://studentjobs.ucmerced.edu/sites/studentjobs.ucmerced.edu/files/page/documents/student_assistant_pay_schedule_-_2021.docx>.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.
