Dear Colleagues and Friends of the Center,

Welcome back for the fall semester! I will be serving as Interim Director this fall while Ignacio López-Calvo is on sabbatical; Ignacio will return in January.

We're pleased to announce the Center received a $750,000 Mellon Grant, which started Aug. 1. The grant is for public humanities and community engagement with a social justice orientation; our public humanities design studio will be the hub for this work. It will fund summer faculty fellows, graduate fellows, and community fellows, in addition to a "Common Read" (in collaboration with the County Library), community lunches, a public humanities speaker series, and mass media coaching and trainings for faculty. Shiraz Noorani and Karla Seijas just joined us as GSRs in the Center, where they will be working on this grant.

We are also delighted to welcome David Toh Kusi as a Visiting Associate Professor; he will be housed in our Center this fall, where he will be offering workshops and consultations on digital humanities tools. In spring, he is projected to teach in English and Interdisciplinary Humanities.

We will be hosting an exciting lineup of events this fall, with details to follow in our weekly emails. Please be sure to save the date for the following events, with more to come:
