Hi Everyone!
Many of you know that this year's California Botanical Society Annual
Banquet and Mixer will be held right here at UC Merced on Saturday, April
25, 2026. Please sign up if interested and for students you can present a
research poster if you like; for work related to our lab, we'll help cover
the cost (after the meeting)—write to me with any questions about that.
Details are below, with more details at the website link:
The evening kicks off at 5pm with a mixer and student research poster
session, followed by dinner at 6pm. Our banquet speaker is Dr. Dena
Grossenbacher (Cal Poly SLO), who will present "California's high mountain
species: persistence in the face of change" — sure to be a highlight for
anyone interested in plant adaptation and climate.
The day also includes optional field trips and tours:
• 10am–12pm: UC Merced Vernal Pools and Grassland Reserve (Lynn Breithaupt)
• 3:30–4:30pm: Campus botanical tour (Peter Nguyen)
• Sunday April 26, 9–11:30am: Foothill wildflowers (Jay Sexton)
Ticket prices (currently $35 for student members, $85 for regular members)
increase by 50% after April 1, so please register soon. Full details and
online registration are at:
https://calbotsoc.org/home/events/
Please forward this to students, colleagues, and anyone who might enjoy a
day of California botany. Students working in Western American botany are
especially encouraged to present a research poster — sign-ups are open
through April 15 via the form on the events page.
We hope to see you there!
Best,
Jay
