Subject: PhD or Postdoc fellowship in British Columbia
To: <ITEX-LIST at lists.ubc.ca>

Hi ITEX-ers,

Canada has a new funding program aiming to recruit PhD students and
postdoctoral fellows, called IMPACT+. Noémie Boulanger-Lapointe and I are
interested in recruiting someone to nominate for one of these fellowships
to work in British Columbia. Eligibility is limited to those residing
outside of Canada: either non-Canadian citizens, or Canadians who currently
reside abroad. If this describes you, read on!

The candidate would have the chance to lead work at the ITEX alpine sites
in Garibaldi Park, including every-other-year quadrat surveys in OTC’s and
control plots, and potential additional research directions to be developed
by the candidate. This aspect would be embedded in the Alpine Horizons
project (https://alpinehorizons.ca). At the same time, the candidate would
develop a global synthesis of the relative impact of climate change on
alpine and arctic systems using the ITEX datasets. Questions of interest
may include importance of the length of the growing season in contrast to
growing degree days as well as different impacts of the experimental design
in alpine and arctic ecosystems.

The candidate would be hosted at Simon Fraser University (www.sfu.ca) and
co-supervised by Chelsea Little (www.littleecologygroup.ca) and Noémie
Boulanger-Lapointe at the University of Victoria (
https://onlineacademiccommunity.uvic.ca/sellab/).

This position is conditional on the candidate receiving special NSERC
funding for candidates (Canadian and non-Canadian) currently based outside
of Canada. Program information here: (
https://nserc-crsng.canada.ca/en/news/launch-new-canada-impact-research-training-awards
)

Interested candidates should contact Chelsea Little at chelsea_little at sfu.ca
before January 30th and, if selected, will be expected to submit an NSERC
application soon after.

Please share widely, and reply to me if you are interested in learning more
about the opportunity.

-Chelsea (and Noémie)
