Subject: Soliciting PhD applicants
To: Megan Bontrager <m.bontrager at utoronto.ca>
Hi colleagues,
I hope you’re having a nice summer. I’m getting in touch because I’m
accepting applications for PhD students this fall, and I’d appreciate it if
you could share my info if you know students who are interested and
well-suited.
I am specifically looking to recruit a PhD student who is interested in
studying adaptation at geographic range limits in the *Clarkia pulchella *study
system. This student must have previous field experience and an interest in
conducting field transplant experiments in natural populations. This
student should be highly self-motivated with strong communication skills.
A bit about our grad program: U of T has a large and interactive EEB
graduate group. Minimum stipends are ~34k/year take-home (we try to exceed
this; currently grads in my lab take home >$40k) and TA loads are
relatively light. Our lab is well equipped for field, greenhouse, and
growth chamber work. We have great colleagues with expertise in genomics,
quantitative genetics, and chemical ecology. I can support applications
from both international and domestic students, though the odds of admission
are higher for domestic applicants.
If you know of students who are thinking about graduate programs and who
are a good match, I would appreciate it if you passed along my information!
They can check out my slightly out-of-date website for more info too.
Thanks! and all my best,
Megan
