Description
The Institute for Ecological Monitoring and Management at San Diego State
University is seeking a highly qualified and experienced postdoctoral
scholar to join our research team and lead research in forest and fire
ecology.
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our research team and lead
efforts aimed at understanding forest and fire dynamics in southern
California to inform strategic planning and management under climate
change. Applicants should have strong interest and background in applied
ecology, conservation, and spatial analyses. Experience working with forest
and fire managers to support science-informed decision making is preferred.
Quantitative proficiency in spatial analyses, particularly working with
remote sensing data, is needed.
The Institute for Ecological Monitoring and Management (IEMM) at San Diego
State University (SDSU) uses cutting-edge scientific research methods and
meaningful community and stakeholder engagement and collaboration to
advance climate adaptation, sustainability, and conservation for
CaliforniaâÂ?ÂTs communities and natural landscapes. IEMM performs its
mission of science in service by linking SDSU scientists with California
communities, resource managers, and planners.
Qualifications: A PhD in ecology, forestry, applied conservation science,
or related fields is required. Candidates must demonstrate scholarship,
leadership and have at least 5 years of experience conducting ecological
research. Experience in interdisciplinary and innovative, integrated
research approaches is a plus. Candidates should be able to work both
independently and in a collaborative setting with project team members,
stakeholders, and partners at a variety of natural resource management
organizations, and community organizations. We are excited to welcome
candidates with excellent interpersonal skills, strong writing capacity,
and a growing publication record. The researcher will be based at SDSU and
will work under the direction of Dr. Megan Jennings. The position may
require travel within California.
Appointment: Appointment will be for two years from start date, contingent
upon performance. Starting salary is approximately $66,560 a year plus
benefits (DOE).
To apply: Send a CV, cover letter, and the names of three references to
mjennings at sdsu.edu with the subject line: Forest and Fire Ecology Postdoc.
Application review is ongoing and will close once the position is filled.
