Basically, this is a new position at Jasper Ridge that will focus on
facilitating and developing research and education focused around the
opportunities presented by the long-term Searsville Watershed Restoration
Project and Fire Fuels Mitigation Projects that are now ramping up at
Jasper Ridge. It is initially a three-year term position but we hope that
it will turn into a long-term position.

Staff Scientist, Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, Stanford University
Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve (JRBP) at Stanford University is seeking a
Staff Scientist whose work will focus on research and education relating to
the ongoing Searsville Watershed Restoration and Fire-Fuels Mitigation
Projects. This is a three-year fixed-term position with a potential

The successful candidate should be familiar with concepts and techniques in
restoration ecology, be well grounded in field-ecology experimental design
and analysis, be an effective communicator, and work well within a team
setting that includes academics, engineering, industry, and government
partners.
The person in this position will:
· Coordinate and contribute to academic research that will advance
ecosystem restoration and socioecological science and inform the Searsville
Watershed Restoration Project (SWRP) and Fire-fuels Project (FFP) above and
beyond the requirements imposed by permitting agencies;
· Facilitate project interactions between Stanford’s Lands,
Buildings, and Real Estate (LBRE) group and academic programs at Jasper
Ridge, including supplying requisite data and other information to aid
project participants.
Key job duties for this position include:
· Work under broad direction of faculty or management to identify
opportunities, develop strategies for, and emplace research and teaching
activities that will contribute to best practices for ecological
restoration and related pedagogy pertinent to the SWRP and FFP.
· Oversee the development, adherence to, and implementation of
research, education, and conservation programs and procedures connected to
the SWRP and FFP.
· Integrate academic inquiry and citizen science with
agency-mandated research and monitoring in a way that is mutually
reinforcing.
· Develop data storage and management systems to facilitate use of
project data in research, education, and conservation, and where
appropriate for the general public.
· Act as primary Jasper Ridge liasian to facilitate on-site access
and information for the multiple organizations involved in the projects.
· Contribute to representing the entity or program to the broader
university, external community, and other stakeholders.
· Identify external funding opportunities and contribute to
grant-writing to help fund specific research and educational opportunities.
· Provide expert consultation related to program development,
funding opportunities, or other specialty area.
· May teach or co-teach courses; oversee the administration of
courses; create and/or advise in the development of curriculum; and/or
advise students, coach and mentor clients and program staff.
Core Duties:
· Develop and manage research programs by conducting research
activities, including outreach to varied stakeholders within the program,
assigning resources and making program improvement recommendations that
impact policies and programs.
· Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research.
· Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and
explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or
recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
· Teach and/or assist in the teaching and administration of
courses. Develop curriculum. Develop curriculum-rating survey, detailed
feedback on courses and make recommendations for preliminary overview and
changes.
· Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants,
peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.
· Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and
related funding and financial sustainability.
· May advise students and/or coach/mentor clients.
· Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program
communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.
· Coach and mentor program staff.
Preferred Education and Experience:
· PhD and relevant experience in area pertinent to restoration
ecology.
· Demonstrated ability to bring projects to successful fruition.
Expected Salary Range: $83,100 - $120,000 annually, commensurate with
experience.
