Hi Folx,
We're having trouble finding a common garden at middle-high elevations in
the Sierra for this project. We were hoping for Wawona, but it's not
looking likely. I'm going to ask Bonnie about Grand Bluff, but if you know
of others who might be interested in hosting garden on their land, please
let me know!
Best,
Jay

CNPS Sierra Foothills Chapter,
If possible, I would appreciate it if you could forward this message to
your listserv or interested members of the CNPS. Thank you!
My name is Seema Sheth, and I’m a professor at North Carolina State
University in Raleigh, NC. I hope you all are staying safe in the face of
the Washburn fire. As part of my work, in collaboration with Dr. Jay Sexton
at UC Merced among others, we are conducting research from spring 2023
through fall 2025 in Mariposa county to study plant adaptation to different
climates. I’m looking to rent a small area of land (< 1/5 acre) in the
vicinity of Wawona/Foresta (~4000-5500 feet in elevation) to establish
experimental gardens. We would need access to the gardens for 3 years, but
there would be minimal infrastructure, mostly a small irrigation set up and
shade cloth. We are working only with a common, native plant, Erythranthe
cardinalis (scarlet monkeyflower).
I will be in the Mariposa area scouting out sites next week on July 28 and
29. If you might be able to help, know of people or businesses to contact,
or would like to meet in person, please email me (ssheth3 at ncsu.edu) or
call. My cell number is 314-422-3868. Please note that I am currently in a
remote part of California and will not have reliable cell service until
July 25.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!
Regards,
Seema Sheth
