University of California Davis is now accepting applications to our final
and last student cohort in the National Science Foundation Research
Traineeship (NRT) program Sustainable Oceans: From Policy to Science to
Decisions. The Sustainable Oceans NRT is an add-on multidisciplinary
program to a degree-granting doctoral training program. It trains the next
generation of PhD marine scientists under a new paradigm that puts the
policy focus on the front-end of the research and training enterprise as a
means of building more effective links between the science and decisions on
sustainable use of living marine resources.

Funded NRT students receive:

   - One year of NSF funding.
   - Opportunity for 8-10 weeks funded internship with science and policy
   organizations.
   - Opportunity to design multi-day symposium with decision-makers and
   stakeholders organized around marine management issues.
   - A dedicated curriculum designed for students in their first two years
   of graduate study.
   - Week long field trip to resource-dependent communities to engage with
   stakeholders and community leader.
   - Interactions with visiting scientists.
   - We would greatly appreciate any help you can provide in spreading the
   word to promising candidates.
