Graduate Student Assistant in Environmental Health

The California Department of Public Health is seeking to hire one graduate
level Student Research Assistant. We are looking for a summer intern who
can help support the research and surveillance projects of Biomonitoring
California, a cross-agency program that evaluates trends in biological
levels of environmental contaminants in California residents.  If you are
interested in environmental health and have a good eye for detail, come
join our team. In addition to project-specific work, this position offers
the opportunity to learn about careers in public health. In-person, hybrid,
or remote work options, paid position, 20-40 hours during summer months,
depending on student availability, with possibility of extending into the
fall semester.



Duties

   - Perform literature searches and review publications on specific
   chemical contaminants (e.g., such as PFAS, metals, and environmental
   phenols)
   - Assist with data screening and analysis efforts to evaluate exposure
   sources to metals, including manganese, cobalt, and thallium
   - Track and summarize news updates on metals related to new federal
   legislation and regulatory action, California contamination issues, and
   large lawsuits
   - Develop data visualization dashboards for internal data exploration



Qualifications

   - 4-year science degree
   - Knowledge of public health, environmental science, and/or chemistry
   - Introductory R and/or SAS skills, or willingness to learn
   - Good organizational skills
   - A strong work ethic, good interpersonal, and team-oriented skills.
