This paper is actually quite interesting in a number of ways, I wonder if we can informally talk about it via email?

Subject: [Sextonlabmeeting] Canceled: Re: Sexton Lab Meeting; 16 November 2022: Undergraduate research experience EDI paper for discussion

Hi Folx,

With everything in flux this week with the strike, and to allow more flexibility in everyone's schedules to adapt, I am cancelling tomorrow's lab meeting.

Next week we won't have lab meeting either due to the Thanksgiving non-instruction day. Our schedule after that is booked so we likely won't get to discussing this paper until next semester probably. In any case, it's a good read in the meantime.

All the best,

Jay

Hi Folx!

Next week we'll discuss this SHORT (!) paper in lab meeting:

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ece3.7321

Please come with three questions stemming from reading this paper. Plus, consider the following for discussion:

1) How does reading this recall challenges or obstacles you faced as an undergraduate trying to get into research?

2) How has reading this paper influenced how you may adjust your practices as a mentor of undergraduate researchers in the future?

3) What might have the authors missed or left out of this paper regarding maximizing equity and inclusion of undergraduate researchers?

We'll be in SE1 200 as usual or here's the zoom link:

See you next week and have a great weekend!

Jay
