The Position
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientific Researcher at Genentech in the Department of Discovery Oncology. S/he will lead biology studies for drug discovery projects focusing on understanding context dependent cell vulnerabilities with the goal to exploit such vulnerabilities to overcome drug resistance. S/he will lead technology development efforts aiming to capture and characterize pre-existing drug insensitive cell states and to identify vulnerabilities of these cell states that could be exploited therapeutically. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing cellular, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques including the development and implementation of cell model generation, next generation sequencing, protein interaction, and other cell-based assays. The position will involve close collaboration and study coordination with other Research labs including Translational Oncology, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Discovery Chemistry, NGS core lab, and other core drug discovery groups. This is an ideal position for a Scientific Researcher who is enthusiastic about delving into the basic biology of drug resistance, gaining drug discovery experience, and leading projects. As such the position requires excellent communication and collaboration skills, the desire to learn about and integrate multiple aspects of drug discovery, and a passion for basic science research.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Cell/Molecular Biology, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of research experience working with cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques. Postdoctoral work is preferred but not required for exceptionally qualified graduate students. Efficient time management and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously are essential. Attention to detail and enthusiasm for integrating basic science learnings with drug discovery efforts are a must. Candidates are expected to independently plan and execute experiments, interpret results and proactively solve problems. The candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with multiple research teams. A strong track record of research productivity including a solid publication record is required. Prior experience with next generation sequencing including scRNA-seq, ChIP-seq, and ATAC-seq, and bioinformatics knowledge are preferred.
