Good Morning Dr. Dumont:

Here at the University of Michigan Medical School we are in the midst of
our recruitment season for a Postdoctoral Multidisciplinary Training
Program in Basic Diabetes Research. This NIH/NIDDK funded program provides
an opportunity for postdoctoral fellows to pursue training in diverse
aspects of diabetes research. Recently, our PIs were granted another
five-year cycle of funding and an additional trainee position was added to
our program by the NIH.

This program provides an opportunity for postdoctoral fellows, with a PhD,
to pursue training in diverse aspects of diabetes research. Training grant
preceptors fall into major interest groups across the spectrum of type 1
and 2 diabetes research - islet biology, autoimmune diabetes, adipocyte
biology, neuronal regulation of metabolism, mechanisms of insulin
resistance, metabolic control in liver and muscle, and diabetes
complications - each area containing investigators pursuing basic research
with potential translational applicability. Laboratory training is
supplemented by a core curriculum in molecular pathogenesis of diabetes, a
series of educational seminars and classes (including ethics), and
workshops on grant writing, career skills, and research methodologies.

Our Office of Health Equity and Inclusion has been instrumental in
supporting the growth of the program. Eligible candidates may have *access
to travel funds to interview* with the mentor/lab, and visit the university
and Ann Arbor. Please inquire before making plans. We are committed to
developing and maintaining diversity in the ethnic, cultural, and gender
backgrounds of our trainees.

The start date of the T32 appointment is September 1, 2019, and applications
<https://medicine.umich.edu/sites/default/files/content/downloads/IntMedMENDT32FellowApp2018-2019Final.pdf>
are due on June 1, 2019. However, interviews with training grant mentors
and start dates in the lab are throughout the year.

By the time of the application, candidates require to:

a) have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree(s) and a desire for a career in
diabetes research

b) have a doctoral degree and have no more than three years of postdoctoral
training

c) be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

For further information please contact Ormond MacDougald at
macdouga at med.umich.edu to discuss the program, mentors, labs and the travel
funds. And visit our website:

We are asking you to help us advertise this opportunity. Please strongly
encourage your trainees or any potential candidates to apply. You can also
post the enclosed flyer outside your office door, lab or department.

Sincerely,
