[QSB-grads] STEM Outreach Group BiotaQ Seeking New Leadership!

Hi everyone!

I’m contacting you because we are seeking new leadership for BiotaQ! BiotaQ is a STEM outreach organization composed primarily of UC Merced grad and undergrad students.
Each year, we do a series of educational modules with Merced County high school students on topics ranging from soil biology, microscopy, physics, microbiology, to biological modeling (and we’d like to add more!). We also have a yearly campus visit where local high schoolers visit the UC Merced campus and a career panel for students and their familes with local Central Valley professionals who use STEM in their careers.

It is currently led by myself, QSB graduate student Sabah Ul-Hasan, ES grad student Kimber Moreland, UCM alum and new CSU Fresno faculty Mario Banuelos. We would like to bring in new leadership and help facilitate BiotaQ’s sustained activity as a STEM outreach group connecting UC Merced and the Merced community. It is an excellent opportunity to gain skills in teaching, mentoring, leadership, STEM communication and visualization, organization management, and more!

This year, in place of our usual Spring module schedule, BiotaQ’s 2019 event will be a 2-hour program for Yosemite High School students with demos of our modules, a short module presenting potential careers in STEM, and will focus on promoting enthusiasm for STEM education events generally.
