Hello Everyone,

Please join us *Thursday* for this week's Enviro-Lunch talk by Kinsey Brock
from University of California, Merced at 12-1pm in room *SE2-224*.

*“Orange lizard, white lizard, yellow lizard, one lizard: the evolution of
multiple color morphs within species” *

*Abstract:* A major goal in evolutionary biology is to understand how
genetic variation arises and is maintained in natural populations. Color
polymorphism, or the presence of two or more discrete, genetically
determined phenotypes within a population, offer an ideal natural system to
study evolutionary processes involved in maintaining genetic variation and
the consequences of when it is lost. To understand the causes and
consequences of color polymorphism, my dissertation investigates the
evolutionary history of the trait and role of different evolutionary forces
at multiple scales from a speciose family of color polymorphic lizards, to
geographic variation in color polymorphism across an entire species
distribution, to different chemical and communication signals among color
morphs in a single population.

*Bio:* Kinsey Brock is a fourth-year Ph.D. Candidate in the Quantitative &
Systems Biology graduate group at the University of California, Merced.
Kinsey received her Bachelor of Arts in Art & Design, Bachelor of Science
in Program in the Environment, and Masters of Science in Conservation
Ecology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her dissertation
research combines her interests in color, evolution, and lizards, and is
focused on the evolutionary causes and consequences of color polymorphism
at multiple evolutionary and spatial scales. In addition to her research,
Kinsey is an artist and musician and works to promote diversity, equity,
and inclusion in the sciences through the Women in STEM and RadioBio
student organizations.

When: Thursday 4/18, 12pm – 1pm

Where: SE2-224

Coffee will be provided, please bring your own mugs.

We look forward to seeing you,

Jing & Jennifer
