Hi QSB,

I'm hosting the QSB seminar speaker, Felipe Zapata this week.

Felipe Zapata, UCLA http://zapatalab.org/
My lab focuses on understanding how biodiversity originates and evolves, with a special focus on plant biodiversity. In our work, we integrate approaches from phylogenetics, ecology, evolution and computational biology in our efforts to understand how species, genes and phenotypes originate and evolve in a changing world. Most of our work has focused on flowering plants from tropical and temperate South American forests, but we are planning to conduct research in Southern California, a “biodiversity hotspot” for plant species.

Please sign up for a slot to meet with him, or to join us on our tour of the vernal pools reserve or for an early dinner at Tumeric on Friday!

Grad students - contact Lesly Lopez <llopez84 at ucmerced.edu><mailto:llopez84 at ucmerced.edu> if you would like to have lunch with Felipe.

Thank you,
EJM
