[QSB-grads] Fwd: FW: Living and Learning Communities-Housing Fellow Job Posting

We need grad students to fill these positions.  It would be in lieu of
TAing and include your own private 2 BR apartment on campus and a stipend
roughly equivalent to TAing.  The job would be to facilitate the activities
for living learning communities on campus.  Pretty sweet deal if you ask
me.  They are looking for the best of the best.

Good Morning,

Thank you for the feedback on the job descriptions for the House Fellows! I
wanted to provide a quick response to some of the feedback and next steps:

   1. Cover letter vs. Letter of Intent: I see “cover letter” and “letter
   of intent”  as essentially the same thing, so I’ve removed the request for
   “cover letter” only requiring a letter of intent.

   1. Some of you were not too keen on the job description having 3
   paragraphs about the institution, unfortunately it is standard UCM practice
   and this is verbiage that we cannot change. I will ask if they can separate
   or move the “about UC Merced” to the bottom of the job description, given
   that these positions are only opened to UCM students who are already
   familiar with the campus.

   1. I also received some feedback about the “Letter of Support” vs.
   “Letter of Reference”. I’d like to point out that by requesting a letter of
   support we are verifying that the student has spoken to their advisor and
   that an academic plan has been established, ensuring that both the student
   and the faculty advisor understand the expectations of this position. We
   want to know that they have their faculty advisor’s support.

These positions should be posted by the end of the week, I’ll be sure to
send out an official update when they do along with the appropriate links
to the applications.

Hi Angie,

The post looks great! I noticed that the application form has a required
both a "letter of intent" and a "cover letter." Are these different, and if
so, can we add a short description so that the student knows what is
expected for each document?

including some information about additional materials to be included in the

Good Evening All,

As promised I have attached draft3 of the proposed themes with highlights
for our LLC’s (Living and Learning Communities).

Feel free to edit as needed, I tried to capture all of your feedback during
our meeting today, I hope my interpretation is close. Hrant, you talked
about a “house name”, feel free to include one! Mike, I know we didn’t talk
about a “house name” for Sustainable Futures but I was throwing some ideas
with my son (who will be college freshman next year!) and he mentioned
Eco-House! ECO House: Sustainable Futures has a nice ring to it! Based on
our meeting today, I also think it speaks to the culture of sustainability
for students who are passionate about environmental issues! Just a thought…

Okay, so we agreed on a deadline of Thursday afternoon for final revisions!
Feel free to send me your final edits by 4pm on Thursday, I’ll work with
Betsy on getting the final version to Housing and Residential Life for next
steps.
