Subject: Followup on students for SISE 2018
To: Mbarlow <mbarlow at ucmerced.edu>
Dear Ms. Barlow,
I'm circling back about our annual *UIC Summer Institute on Sustainability
and Energy
<https://uic-sise-admissions-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com/Redirect?ukey=142KmcUVuTDvAIxSYLJbwDRHRuQxOnKvyXD7K66xyV8g-1927032642&key=YAMMID-09756498&link=http%3A%2F%2Fuicsise.com>*
* (SISE)*. I hope you might circulate info about the program once more to
your students and contacts. I know it sometimes can take a couple times
seeing a program announcement before it registers with folks. :)
We're accepting applications through June 15. Just a reminder that there's
no program fee, we provide lodging to out of town attendees, and we have
transportation scholarships for most participants.
Thanks so much!
All the best -

*About SISE*
The *Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy (SISE)* is a two-week
"boot camp" for future decision makers eager to join the sustainability and
energy revolution happening around the globe. Held annually since 2011, the
program boasts 300 alumni. During weekdays, SISE'ers participate in
high-level talks, visit energy and sustainability sites, and network.
During evenings and weekends, they work collaboratively on a research
project and enjoy exploring Chicago.
*Theme*
The SISE theme, *(re)new*, centers around how we can revitalize our
neighborhoods, communities, and ourselves. Partnering with a local
community, we will engage best practices surrounding retrofitting homes and
businesses, repurposing buildings and lots, sustaining meaningful and
historical sites, incorporating renewable energy and battery technologies
into neighborhoods, and rebranding the image of the community within and
without itself.
*Applicants*
Participants (SISE'ers) from around the country join SISE at the University
of Illinois at Chicago. SISE'ers are chosen from a highly competitive pool
of applicants from across the country. Diversity is one of the strongest
features of the program, with participants representing a broad range of
backgrounds and expertise. They live together. They research together. They
become a part of our extended and international "SISE family."
*Cost and Support*
- There is no program fee.
- Lodging is provided for all participants.
- Transportation support is provided to many participants.
*How to Apply*
- Applications are accepted through June 15
- Senior-level undergraduates (as of the fall of 2018), graduate
students, and professionals working in the fields of sustainability and
energy who are living, working, or studying in the United States are
eligible to apply
- The application process includes:
1. An online application
2. A resume/CV
3. One letter of recommendation
4. A short Skype/Google Hangouts interview
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the SISE Program
