Dear All,

This Friday we have David Ando to give a seminar on biofuels. David is a
PhD graduate from UC Merced (Ajay's group), and is enjoying his postdoc at
Lawrence Berkeley.

Please let me know if you or your students are interested in meeting with
him. His talk is at 10:30am, COB 267, this Friday.

Title: What are second generation biofuels, and how can we make them?

Abstract: The Joint BioEnergy Institute is focused on developing advanced
second generation biofuels which can replace gasoline, diesel and jet fuels
while providing significant environmental benefits in the form of reduced
global dependence on crude oil and minimizing CO2 production. Our goal is
to apply whole cell models and other modeling techniques to assist
metabolic engineering efforts in fatty acid-derived biofuel production. Our
analysis can provide insights into cellular metabolism required for
systematic genetic engineering efforts. We are also developing CRISPR based
tools to reengineer the E. coli genome at scale.

Bio: David Ando was a graduate student at UC Merced and has a Ph.D in
Physics. He is now a postdoc at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
