Paul Serna Torre, of UC San Diego, will present:
The Impact of Storage costs on need and use of transmission for WECC and California

We present the impact of storage power capacity cost and storage energy capacity cost reductions in the expansion of the WECC and California power systems. In this analysis of storage cost reductions, we also incorporate a sensitivity analysis of transmission capacity reduction in the WECC. We arrive at the conclusion that expensive storage costs increase WECC building of new transmission capacity, and cheap storage costs result in higher loading for existing transmission lines.
