Just a quick reminder of today’s meeting

For this second meeting of the year, I’d like to talk about our high level mission. We talked about this once before, but didn’t act on it and then it came up again, recently.

The topic is:

What Mike Gravely wants is a NUMBER to put into his solicitation.

I think we should propose that, instead, he should ask for people to propose use cases and assess the cost (a levelized cost of storage) they can reach.  For example,

1. Diurnal storage – assume it is cycled 200 times per year.  We can write down an equation that would calculate how much you would need to charge based on the capital and O&M costs, the cycle lifetime and a predetermined interest rate. We need to identify how to account for efficiency and idle losses.

2. Cross-day storage – cycle 20 times per year. Similar calculation. Larger correction for idle losses

3. Seasonal storage – cycle 2 times per year – maybe provide cost in units appropriate for reserve market.
