Jeff has asked that I send him an outline or agenda for the first public workshop by COB today (Oct. 21). Sorry not to give you more time, but I think it will be more important to get your feedback on the later details.

I’m currently planning to send this message to Jeff. I’m not sure of when Jeff wants to have the full slide deck. I’m planning to get your input on that on Oct. 30, but he may want the deck earlier, so I may try to schedule a new meeting. At this point, I’m ONLY looking for input on the outline and overall organization. The slides still need a lot of work before I can make good use of your comments, but I’m attaching them in case you’re trying to understand the cryptic outline.
Sorry for the short turn around I need on this.:

Jeff,

With the hope of communicating very well, I have written an outline that is more detailed than what I will want to present in the actual workshop, but it will give you some detail. The numbers at the beginning of each line are an estimate of the number of minutes.

•(3) Motivation: Use positive feedback to accelerate transition (coordinated strategy will save $ and change faster)
•(4) Introduction to team: UC Merced, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UNC
•(15) Long-duration storage: Articulating the goal of the project
•Vision of meeting needs in 2045 – end goal (need to understand seasonal storage to ensure resource adequacy)
•Roles and target cost of long-duration storage - Answers are functions, not single numbers
•Why defining that path to the end goal is important
•What is long-duration storage competing with?
•(15) Technologies to explore for their potential: Many possibilities
•Candidates for seasonal storage
•Candidates for multi-day storage
•Technologies that will affect the need for long-duration storage
•(3) Practical challenges
•Computational: Need strategies to model long periods of time quickly
•Complexity: A million inputs and a million outputs – how do we avoid a fatal flaw?
•Complexity: A million scenarios – how do we choose the studies that will be most valuable?
•(20) Next steps [Note: Maybe I should break this into Next Steps (15 min) and Outcomes (5 min)?]
•Project timeline and strategy
•Defining a baseline
•Technology evaluation
•Identify a computationally efficient strategy for modeling long time periods
•Use scenarios to explore important parameters that we can’t accurately predict
•Outcome: Policy opportunities
•Outcome: Evaluate storage candidates and plausible market-entry paths
•Outcome: define cost targets as a function of time for x hours of storage resource
