In an era of escalating anti-immigrant rhetoric and immigration enforcement, healthcare settings have become critical sites of both care and risk for undocumented and immigrant patients. This workshop spotlight healthcare professionals and community organizers who are navigating this political climate while actively protecting patients. Speakers will examine how current policies affect patient safety, access to care, and trust in healthcare systems, and will share strategies they have used to protect and serve patients, given the immigration presence in many communities. Participants will gain tangible, actionable tools to support and safeguard immigrant patients.

Becoming the Doctors Our Communities Need: Undocumented Students and Medical Education

Undocumented students pursuing medical careers are community-rooted scholars committed to becoming the doctors of our communities need. Yet, they are finding a gap in admission policies, financial barriers, and limited institutional support. This workshop highlights the systemic challenges undocumented and DACAmented pre-medical students face and center their lived experiences. More than awareness, it is a call to action. Participants will be invited to move beyond passive allyship and mobilize institutional resources, revise exclusionary practices, and open pathways into medical education.
