The Focus on Your Future program<https://www.ico.edu/focus-on-your-future> is a comprehensive, week-long residential initiative designed to introduce undergraduate students to the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO)<https://www.ico.edu/> and the professional landscape of eye care. This immersive experience provides a detailed overview of the academic and clinical rigor required to earn a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree<https://www.ico.edu/admissions>.



Throughout the week, participants follow a structured curriculum that includes:

  *   Clinical Observation: Students gain first-hand exposure to patient care through rotations at the Illinois Eye Institute (IEI), one of the largest providers of comprehensive eye and vision care in Chicago.
  *   Academic & Admissions Insight: Attendees participate in seminars led by ICO Faculty and admissions staff, covering optometric theory and providing strategic guidance on the application and interview process.
  *   Professional Networking: The program facilitates direct engagement with a broad network of ICO stakeholders, including current students, staff, and practicing alumni.
  *   Campus & City Integration: Beyond the state-of-the-art facilities, the program allows participants to experience campus life and explore the professional and cultural opportunities available in Chicago.

APPLICATION

To apply to the Focus on Your Future program<https://www.ico.edu/focus-on-your-future>, you need to submit the following to our office (preferably in one envelope):

  *   Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended (official electronic transcripts sent directly to admissions at ico.edu<mailto:admissions at ico.edu> from the school are accepted)
  *   One letter of academic recommendation from a faculty member or advisor
  *   Optional: 2?2 photo
  *   Application Period: November 1, 2025 - May 1, 2026



COST

There is no cost to participate in this program. Participants are only responsible for their travel expenses and/or transportation to and from ICO. Participants are housed at no charge in ICO’s Residential Complex.<https://www.ico.edu/residential-complex>
